Dr. Veronica McIver

Education
Graduated from Government High School in 1972 at the tender age of 15 years old where I obtained 7 GCE O’Level passes. Attended University of Waterloo in Ontario Canada with a Bachelor of Science honors degree in Biology. I continued my education at the University of Florida where I obtained a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.
Employment
Upon returning home, I practiced at Dental Health Center on Collins Avenue from 1982 as an associate. Due to the success and fast growth of my practice I was eligible to become a partner and part owner of the Dental Center after 18 months. Retired from private practice in dentistry in 2018 after a total of 36 years.

My desire to succeed is always greater than my fear of failure, hence I ventured into real estate and became a developer in 2007 while maintaining my dental practice. I assigned myself contractor/CEO of the Ocean West project from 2007 where I managed the daily affairs of the development for the twelve (12) condominiums/townhomes during the building process. After successfully dabbling in the real estate market, my voracity, drive desire and lack of fear led me to open a ten (10) part room boutique hotel with a pool/game room, bar services, massage services and a gym sitting 70 feet above sea level in the western part of Nassau with breathtaking views of lake Killarney to the south and the Atlantic to the north.
Accomplishments
I am the first black female to graduate from the university of Florida dental school and this paved the way for females in dentistry in The Bahamas as I proudly wear the hat that claims I am the first female to practice dentistry in The Bahamas.

Awards & Appointments
Another first was when I was elected 1st woman President of the Bahamas Dental Association for a two-year term in 1985 and appointed by the government of the Bahamas to the Dental Board and Council for two 3-year terms. Received certificate of appreciation from Women in Science and Technology in 2002 for valuable contribution in the field of Science and Technology. Honored by Dollars and Sense Magazine in Chicago, Illinois in 1990 for America’s Best and Brightest young business and professional young women and men.

Served on the executive management committee of the Children’s Emergency Hostel for several years after returning from university.
NABHOOD Asian American Hotel Owners Association award was given in 2016 for vision as an entrepreneur to develop a first-class hotel without any prior hotel industry experience.

Attend St Francis Catholic church.
My life is motivated and driven by the love of Almighty God who directs my path and charters my journey through life. Due to my deep commitment to serve God I am always willing and ready to take the next step, wherever he leads me.

I have 2 children, a daughter and son, who lives in the United States. Both have doctoral degrees. I am the proud grandparent of two grandchildren. I am presently divorced.

Hobbies

I find time to relax and unwind when necessary and is an avid traveler where I have visited many exotic places in the world. I love boating and fishing and I am a certified scuba diver. Most people may not be aware that sewing is another passion of mines having developed that skill that was taught by my mother who was a teacher/seamstress for a government school. Occasionally I will design and sew some of my garments.
